During their 12-day mission, Life on the Edge 2009 researchers and educators from University of North Carolina at Wilmington, US Gological Survey, Florida Atlantic University, Scottish Association for Marine Science, NOAA Fisheries Service, Marine Conservation Biology Institute and North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences explored the biodiversity, connectivity and habitat associations of the deep reef communities off the Cape Canaveral area of Florida. This mission was the first in a series of four deep reef related cruises in 2009 that ranged from North Carolina through the Gulf of Mexico. While at sea, researchers and educators sent pictures and journal entries detailing their activities aboard the Research Vessel Seward Johnson. Discover what they found during their exploration of deep reef communities off the Cape Canaveral area of Florida.
