Q: Luminescent sea life holds great fascination. Is the Johnson Sea Link II able to go deep enough to find and film these creatures? If so, could you please put a video clip on the Web site like the one of the scamp grouper changing color?

A: The Johnson Sea Link can go deep enough to film bioluminescent creatures of all types. The third leg of this voyage is focusing on bioluminescence, vision of deep sea creatures, and natural products with medical applications. Perhaps they will have the cameras that can capture these incredible displays in the complete darkness. Unfortunately, our cameras need to have the lights of the sub illuminating the fish in order for them to be recorded. Check out the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution Web site found in our "Links" section for more information on luminescent sea life.
