Questions & Answers

Q: Why does the water depth change so much from reading to reading?

A: The seafloor is filled with a variety of structures. You can find hills and valleys, mountains and flat plains. If you look at the latitude and longitude readings of our research samples, you will see that we are moving around as we work. Because very little of the seafloor has been mapped, our data helps contribute to basic knowledge of the ocean.
